We do most of our walking in the early morning ... through the Muir Meadows, Diablo View, and Pacheco area, and along the Contra Costa Canal Trail... this view from Center Ave shortly after sunrise on clear day view of Mt. Diablo... although looking for Holly, there are not many gardens growing Holly... however Sunset's Western Garden Book has a 11/2 pages of Hollies (Ilex) you can grown in our Zone 9 (Sunset 14/15).
